Wood pellets and pellet fires

Wood pellets

Wood pellets are a popular fuel for home heating in Europe and North America. Today over 1.2 million pellet fires are in use throughout North America.

Wood pellets are relatively new to New Zealand, but are fast gaining popularity, due to their clean burning nature, their convenience and their cost effectiveness. Wood pellets are made from dry, natural wood residues, which are compressed into small cylinders. This fuel is clean burning, convenient and cost effective. Pellets have a very low ash content.  Wood pellets are sold and distributed in bulk or in convenient 20kg bags.

Pellet fires

Pellet fires are very efficient heating appliances, designed specifically to burn wood pellets. As with woodburners, they come in a range of makes and models, either freestanding or as a fireplace insert.

A key difference between pellet fires and wood burners is that wood burners typically only burn cleanly and efficiently on maximum, while pellet fires  burn cleanly and efficiently over a range of settings due to the ability to vary both fuel and air.
